I hope your day is off to a spectacular start!
As a self-proclaimed makeup junkie, I’ve tried copious amounts of concealer, piles of powders & more brushes than I can count! #help
I finally feel like I have my product line-up down pat, but of course, the hunt never really ends now does it?! There will always be a new BB Cream or CC Cream (heck, now there’s even a DD Cream!) to give a whirl in hopes that it will become a HG, can’t-live-without-it product. But, for now, I’m pretty darn content with my makeup sitch so I wanted to share it with you! Since I’ve already shared my lash secrets, this post is all about the “Foundation” of my makeup routine.
The Whole Gang: Primer // Foundation // Foundation Brush // Nars Concealer (in “Chantilly”) // Maybelline Concealer (in “Fair”) // Beauty Blender // Concealer Setting Powder // Travel Sized Brush // Face Powder // Full Coverage Brush // Bronzer // Fluffy Bronzer Brush // Light Reflecting Finishing Powder // Blush (in “Springsheen”)
Step #1 Primer: Smashbox Photo Finish Color Correcting Primer
I slather on some of this silky stuff pre-foundation application. I initially purchased this product for its color correcting properties, but I began to notice that my makeup would last much longer when I used this particular primer in comparison to the others I have in my bag. #winning
Step #2 Foundation: Sephora Airbrush Perfection Foundation
My Holy Grail of foundations, hands down. (And I’ve tried IT ALL, people!) This stuff has some serious staying-power. You won’t feel like you’re wearing a mask of heavy product- the formula is airy and breathable while still providing buildable coverage. I typically use the “light” shade, but if I’ve been upping my self-tanner game I’ll use “medium”. Sometime I mix the two.
I spray the product onto my fave foundation brush by IT Cosmetics (their brushes rock…no shedding and super sturdy) and apply as I would any other foundation. I used to spray the product directly on my face (I figured there might be more of an “airbrush” effect?!) but I didn’t notice a difference in coverage after I switched over to brush application. If you do choose to spray it directly on your face, don’t forget a shower cap! No one wants an airbrushed hairline…
I have a splurge and a save for you! If you’re a high-end cosmetics kind of gal, then I highly recommend Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Chantilly. My drugstore dupe is Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer in Fair. I’ve found myself reaching for the Maybelline option more and more because the the cushion applicator feels gentler on the delicate under-eye area. No matter the concealer, I almost always conceal with the fairest shade because I want my eyes to be light and bright! Also, I always use Trish McEvoy’s “Triangle of Light” method – it’s a game changer. Once I’ve applied the concealer, I blend with the ever-so-popular Beauty Blender.
Step #4 Setting Under Eye Concealer: Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder
When it comes to translucent setting powder, Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder can’t be beat. It will make sure your concealer stays put while lightening up the area under the eye. I apply the brightening powder with my MAC travel sized brush – its smaller stature makes it the ideal tool for setting powder under the eyes!
Step #5 Face Powder: Sephora 8-HR Mattifying Powder
Yes, it’s another Sephora brand staple. I had always overlooked Sephora brand products while in store until about a year ago. Thank goodness I gave this powder a try, it keeps oil at bay like no other! I apply it with the Sephora Full Coverage Brush #53.
Step #6 Bronzer, Finishing Powder & Blush
To add some healthy color, I buff on Tarte Amazonian Matte Bronzer with the most fabulous fluffy brush by IT Cosmetics that’s soft as can be. Then, if I have a few spare seconds, I’ll top it off with Nars Light Reflecting Finishing Powder & my favorite Mac blush in “Springsheen” for a hint of sparkle.
And there you have it! My go-to makeup routine for a matte, flawless finish! This product combination is what keeps my skin shine-free from morning to evening. I would love to hear about your HG products in the comments below! Like I said, the hunt for product perfection never ends! 🙂
