When I invest my time, my money and my hope into a skincare product, I want it to work! Nothing’s worse than trusting a product’s oh-so-impressive “claims”, using it exactly as directed, and then getting to the bottom of the bottle with little to no visible benefit. #wompwomp
That’s why I’m so thankful for SkinCeuticals skincare. SkinCeuticals’ products are high potency, science-driven and evidence-based. AKA: They work. It’s been proven. (Google some reviews, you’ll be wowed!)
If you follow along on Instagram, perhaps you recall that I had the pleasure of attending the AAD Conference in Orlando with SkinCeuticals on behalf of Byrdie.com. As a self-proclaimed skincare junkie, you can imagine my excitement! I learned a wealth of information and came home with a renewed vigor in my pursuit of skin health. It’s easy to become a bit complacent with a so-so skincare routine. This conference gave me the kick in the booty that I needed to up my skincare game.
The entire SkinCeuticals line is stellar, but I want to hone in on the two formulations that excite me most: C E Ferulic Antioxidant & Physical Fusion UV Defense Sunscreen. They’re like the power couple of anti-aging products. While at the AAD Conference, I had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with Dr. Scott Peterson (AVP, Medical Affairs at SkinCeuticals) about atmospheric aging. I learned SO MUCH. He’s extremely knowledgeable. Here’s a taste of what I learned in layman’s terms. Science was never my best subject. I’m more of an English girl. 🙂
But I digress…
We all know that too much sun exposure = wrinkles. Well, I’ve got some not-so-fabulous news for you. The sun isn’t the only enemy that we need to shield from the skin in our quest for a youthful complexion. Yep, the sun has a partner in crime… it’s name is pollution. As a pair, these two environmental skin aggressors create “ozone” – and I’m not talking about the good kind that protects us from the sun’s rays. This is the bad kind. Ozone pollution can lead to fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. It can also manifest itself in the skin as oiliness, rough texture and unwanted pigmentation. (Thanks but no thanks…)
Frightening fact #1: 132 million people live in U.S. counties that received an “F” for ozone levels. (yikes!)
Frightening fact #2: Ozone pollution forms best in warm, sunny weather. (That sounds like Texas if you ask me… #I’mInTrouble)
When I heard this, it was a huge bummer. I have a hard enough time being consistent with my sunscreen (oftentimes relying on the measly spf 15 in my foundation…) so of course I haven’t been protecting my skin from pesky pollution too! What damage have I caused? I’d rather not think about it…
So let’s talk prevention from here on out!
I’m using the C E Ferulic Antioxidant Serum and the Physical Fusion UV Defense Sunscreen each and every morning without fail. The antioxidant combats ozone pollution (with Vitamin C, Vitamin E & Ferulic Acid) and the sunscreen shields me from the sun with broad spectrum SPF 50. It’s like a one-two punch protective protocol. It covers all your bases. And the best part? This dynamite duo is based on years of clinical research. Dr. Peterson provided an abundance of evidentiary support. The proof is there; this anti-aging protocol works. (Hallelujah!)
Like I mentioned above, I haven’t been the best at consistently applying a sunscreen daily, apart from the SPF 15 in my foundation. Well, that stops now. I vow to wear it from here on out. What I like most about the Physical Fusion UV Defense Sunscreen is its lightweight, non-greasy feel. An added benefit? It’s tinted with a universal shade that adapts to all complexions. The coverage is sheer so I layer it underneath a BB Creme or Foundation if going somewhere special. However, if I’m just popping over to the grocery store or taking Rocky to the dog park, the sheer tint is perfect. Keep in mind that you should always shake the sunscreen before you apply. This ensures even distribution of active ingredients. Also, always apply the sunscreen after the antioxidant, not the other way around.
Can you believe these powerhouses? I am SO excited to continue to use these products and to share my results along the way. I’m thinking there are a lot less wrinkles in my future, and that’s how I like it. 🙂
P.S. I have also fallen head-over-heels in love with two new moisturizers. My combo skin needs the hydration without the grease. SkinCeuticals’ Hydrating B5 Gel is the most refreshingly light hydrator. It quite literally feels like quenching your skin’s thirst. Just trust me, you’ll love it. Second, SkinCeuticals’ Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2. It cured my skin’s post-airplane dryness in a single use! I applied it on the first evening in Orlando post-flight and woke up to baby soft skin the next morning. It’s a game-changer.
P.P.S. Since my tried-and-true readers typically head here for fashion, I couldn’t help but include a little selfie from the conference so that you can shop my outfit! How darling is the print of this dress. Compliments galore are guaranteed. Oh, and I wore these nude strappy sandals ALL DAY LONG (9 am – 9 pm) with no pain. They look unbearable but they’re miraculously comfortable. I don’t know how Stuart does it. 🙂
Thank you so much for reading! I hope this post was informative! I can’t tell you how pleased I am with SkinCeuticals. These products are winners I promise. 🙂
