Hi my sweets!
I’m SO happy that you’re here!
Let’s get a few things things straight: I take a bath or a shower every darn day. (With my handy-dandy shower cap, no doubt.) 🙂 Especially now that I’ve recently revamped my workout routine, a daily shower is a MUST. However, as most ladies can attest, the whole wash-blowdry-style process is NOT a fun undertaking unless it’s absolutely necessary. BUTTTT, when you find the right hair products, you can extend your blowout for days (and I mean dayyyyss…) upon end. Keep reading for my ride-or-die product favorites from Nordstrom that keep my hair washing days few and far between.
Product #1 Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo
I had been on the prowl for a killer dry shampoo for a good long while! I stumbled upon this gem by Aveda about 5 months ago and I couldn’t be happier. Most dry shampoos that have a white tint don’t blend into my brunette hair without leaving behind a gray tinge that’s reminiscent of the gray hair spray I used when I had to play an old lady in my high school’s musical…
Other dry shampoos leave your hair feeling gloppy and full of product…
This Aveda Shampure is my forever go-to, because, after blending for 60 seconds max (with a hair flip or 2… duh) all traces of the white powder will vanish. I’m left with volumized hair whose oil has been mattified. It’s miraculous. Plus, this dry shampURE smells invigorating and natural (like most Aveda products…) Read reviews for further proof of this potion’s goodness! (It’s so popular that it sold out very quickly but thankfully is now back in stock!)
Psstt… The hair you see in these photos hasn’t been washed in 5 days. Don’t judge. These products are what makes this possible!! (hehe) 🙂
Product#3 Triple Sec Texture Spray
Yep, the photo below is not so cute. But, at least my Invisibobble hair tie came to my rescue. These hair ties are a total game changer. I found them at Nordstrom, and now those old scrawny hair ties from my past just won’t do! I mean, these Invisibobble hair ties don’t crease your hair! No more worries throwing half your hair up in a silly looking bun while you curl the other half. These won’t crimp, crease or pull. What on earth did I do without them? …. no clue.
Soooo, after securing the top half of my hair with an Invisibobble hair tie to stay out of the way, it’s time to curl the bottom half of my hair. I spray each strand with Triple Sec Texture Spray for a hint of hold and volume before wrapping it around my favorite T3 curling wand barrel.
Back in the day I would spray my hair with hair spray (before curling) for the sake of additional curl hold, but that led to crunchy curls that were way too product-heavy. I like to keep my curls (and ultimately my waves) light & airy. So, Triple Sec Texturizer is a perfect in-betweener. I learned this trick from Drybar (aka: my favorite place on the planet…), it’s what all of the Drybar stylists use pre-curl!!
This curling wand trio is EVERYTHING. I use the 1″ barrel 90% of the time, because I like to brush out my curls for a “glam wave” effect. This is the perfect size for such a style. Every once in a while I’ll use the larger barrel for a loose curl (with less staying power). I’ve never used the tapered barrel, so no thoughts on that one. BTW, you can purchase my favorite 1″ barrel on its own for a much lower price!
I always curl away from the face and I keep my sections rather small since I intend to brush them out within 10-15 minutes.
Side Note: Yes, I do my hair and makeup in my kitchen (if you happened to notice the fridge in the background… hehe) I mean, where else was I going to put my full length mirror when the lighting in the kitchen is EVERYTHING?! 🙂
After finishing the bottom half, I let down the top half of my hair and continue curling. As you can tell, the curls are shirly temple-esque at first. They’re tight, almost ringlet-like curls. I let them sit like this while I finish curling my entire head of hair, and then they’ll be brushed out afterward to create bouncy waves that’ll last FOR DAYS.
I look like such a dweeb in the photo below (but, hey, they can’t all be winners… baha)
After curling my entire head with the 1″ T3 curling wand barrel, I brush out each curl with this Drybar mini detangler brush. It never pulls your hair and it creates the most perfect soft wave. I have the regular sized brush as well. I always have one or the other packed in my purse.
Oh, and they can each be used on wet hair right out of the shower! Forget old-school combs, these are the only 2 tools I use to brush my hair whether it’s wet or dry. Thank you, Nordstrom!
Product #6 Triple Sec Texture Spray (yep, it’s a repeat! I use it twice! SO GOOD.)
Product #7 Favorite Touchable Hair Spray that WORKS!
Post-curl and post-brush, I break out the Triple Sec once again! This stuff is pure magic, I swear. (I even use Triple Sec texturizer as an air freshener whenever we have unexpected guests, no joke. It just smells SO freakin’ divine. It also makes for a fab impromptu perfume…baha! But really…) But back to the hair, I use the Triple Sec to add some extra oomph to my brushed out waves, and then I finish it all off with my favorite hair spray on the planet: Air Control Hairspray by Aveda. It’s lightweight, flexible hold is surprisingly long-lasting. I love everything about it – including the natural ingredients. 🙂
