Are you a lash lover? I sure am.
My if-i-were-stranded-on-a-desert-island essential is mascara. So naturally, I’ve tried it ALL – from Benefit and Bobbie Brown to Dior and drugstore faves, like Covergirl. So after years and years of research (aka: Sephora shopping), I’ve finally got my routine down to a science.
Without further ado, I present to you my lash-boosting dream team…
Shop My Lash Favorites: Kevyn Aucoin Eyelash Curler | Loreal Double Extend Primer | Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara | L’Oreal Extra-Volume Collagen Mascara | Mascara Guard | Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Extreme Fibers
Step #1: Curl like crazy with a Kevyn Aucoin Eyelash Curler! I’ve found that it’s even better than my previous fave and often-praised Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler. Blast your curler with the heat of a blowdryer pre-curl if you really want your eyes to WOW!
Step #2: Swipe on a coat of Loreal Double Extend Primer (only the end with the white primer, not the end with the black mascara). DiorShow Lash Plumping Serum used to be my go-to, but it doesn’t even compare to this drugstore find that is half the price! I owe this amaze discovery to Emily Gemma over at The Sweetest Thing Blog (love her blog!). Her lashes are always on point so I knew I had to try, and now I can’t live without this primer that adds plumping by the plenty!
Step #3: Apply first coat of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. Although Emily Gemma also attributes her fab lashes to this miraculous mascara, I found this one on my own. I snagged it at Sephora right when it hit shelves, and I haven’t turned my back on it since! This mascara does it all. Length? Yep! Curl? Yep! And Mega Volume? Double Yep! My only gripe would be with the length of it’s life since it dries up fairly quickly. Thankfully, all you have to do is add a few lubricating eye drops to your tube (I use Systane) and, voila! It’s like new!
Step #4: If you want the false eyelash affect without the falsies, I suggest Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Extreme Fibers. These little fibers are my faves. Unfortunately, they are pretty pricey (because I don’t use the mascara that comes with the set) but totally worth it! They will build up your lashes like no other, and they won’t flake off during the day like these fibers by Tart that I also gave a whirl. No bueno.
Step #5: Seal the fibers with another coat of the Better Than Sex Mascara from step 3 or a coat of L’Oreal Extra-Volume Collagen Mascara. This mascara totally wins runner-up in my book. It’s worlds better than it’s wildly-popular sister product L’Oreal Voluminous, and it delivers lash-plumping results while remaining clump-free. Sometimes a second coat of my fave mascara, Too Faced Better Than Sex, can get a little thick so I usually top off the lash fibers with this drugstore find.
Step #6: It’s time to give those lower lashes some love. If va va voom eyes are your goal, your bottom lashes shouldn’t be dismissed. Like I mentioned in this post, a mascara guard is the key to smudge-free lower lash mascara application. It is a game changer. I use it daily, so the $6.99 price tag is the steal of the century. I always prefer a tiny wand when working on my lower lashes, so I usually use one of my many tiny, sample tubes of mascara (like the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes in the photo above). It’s a great way to put your free samples to use! If you haven’t amassed an embarrassingly large assortment of sample-sized products like me, I would suggest you use a mascara with a lower-lash specific brush like this one from Clinique or this drugstore dupe (use lower-lash side only).
And that’s a wrap!
If you’re a mascara maven, you know that layering is the key to lash perfection. This particular layering technique is my secret weapon when I want to flaunt larger-than-life lashes. I’ll keep you posted if I find any new winners, I’m always on the hunt! 🙂
Have fun batting those lashes, babes! Thank you so much for stopping by the blog!
