A few of the things I adore about Beyond Pilates:
The uber-friendly instructors!
I have taken this class with 5 different instructors and they have each been very approachable as well as passionate about Pilates. Don’t hesitate to seek them out and ask questions!
- New to the reformer? I would recommend signing up for Mallory Johnson’s class. She was the instructor of my first-ever Pilates class at Beyond and she broke down the basics for me in a way that was easy to understand. Her bubbly persona, coupled with her down-to-earth teaching style, makes her class really fun. Plus, she often starts each class with a Taylor Swift song. If “Welcome to New York” by Taylor doesn’t get you pumped for Pilates, I don’t know what will.
You will feel a MAJOR burn but you will still be looking good for brunch!
Don’t get me wrong, this workout is SUPER HARD. Like thighs-on-fire HARD. However, since it is a strength-based class with very refined movements, I tend to leave class with more of a glow than an intense sweat. I love a great workout that does not require a complete makeup/hair/outfit overhaul right afterward.
PilatesRemix will challenge your body in a new way, and I can almost guarantee that you will be hooked after your first class. Both the workout and the studio vibe will keep you coming back week after week. I speak from experience.
Tips & Tidbits:
- Sticky Socks are required (available for purchase in studio).
- 6 AM morning classes fill up fast (often over a week in advance) so planning ahead and signing up early is key.
- If you are new to the reformer, arrive 10 minutes early for class and ask the instructor for a reformer rundown. I promise that they are the friendliest! I do not recommend arriving more than 10 minutes early because the previous class will still be in session.
Not in Dallas? No need to fret, I’ve gotcha covered.
Beyond Studio’s owner and well-known fitness innovator, Brandi Marino, has hand-selected three reformer moves to help you achieve a PILATESremix body no matter what your location.
- AIRPLANE or “Pretty Pose”
“There are a few different names for this move but ‘pretty pose’ is my favorite! Holding the handles, your arms extend diagonally, meet in the middle, and then diagonally extend on the opposite side. This is such a great stretch as it opens up the front of the body and helps chisel the arms and the back.” – Brandi
- FEET IN STRAPS
“Put your feet in the straps and draw your heels together so your knees come out wide toward your armpits. Exhale as you push your heels straight out from your sitz bone keeping the feet together and in a small ‘V’ as you extend the legs. Feel like you are zipping up a tight pair of jeans from your pelvis. Feel the inner thighs draw together. This will tone your legs, butt, inner and outer thighs while developing a strong core and a lean and toned body.”
- ROWING (Sexy Back)
“Holding the infinity foot bar (the secret weapon) with your hands about shoulder width apart grow taller off your sitz bone as you pull your upper abdomen to the foot bar. Your elbows will reach wide and back as you draw your shoulder blades together. Release your back slowly, feeling your shoulder blades pull apart. This exercise works the core, biceps and back while stretching the hamstrings.”
